REVELATION 22:17

"LET HIM THAT IS ATHIRST, COME"

I. THE BASIC THIRST OF MAN.
        A. Sense of an unfulfilled purpose.
                1. The desire to be or to have.
                2. "There must be more to life than just this."
        B. The reason behind man's drive.
                1. It creates the alcoholic.
                2. It is the reason behind the sharp increase in drugs.
                3. It causes some to possess drive for money.
                4. Answer behind the pleasure mania here in U.S.
        C. We note how unfulfilling are man's pursuits.
                1. Rather than slacking his thirst, it only increases it.
                        a. Man who is an alcoholic may have begun with just that relaxer.
                        b. Those who use drugs need progressively larger doses.
                2. Solomon - man of wide pursuits.
                        a. Education.
                        b. Wealth.
                        c. Pleasure.
                        d. Building monuments.
                                "Vanity, vanity, all is vanity and vexation of spirit."

II. THE ONLY ANSWER FOR THAT IS "THE WATER OF LIFE."
        A. Man's sense of unfulfilled purpose correct.
                1. Tell me not in mournful numbers.
                2. We were created for higher things.
                        a. The man who spends his life amongst the material and money is 
                           truly missing out.
                        b. God has created us for fellowship with Him.
                1. Garden of Eden.
                2. "That which we have seen and heard declare we..."
        B. Jesus claimed to be the answer to man's need.
                1. I am the bread of life.
                2. I am the light of the world.
                3. I am the door to the sheepfold.
                4. I am the resurrection and the life.
                5. I am the way, the truth, and the life.
                6. "But whoso drinketh of the water that I give, shall never thirst again".
        C. The gospel, the good news, there is more to life, it is Jesus Christ.
                1. There is an answer to the thirst; "If any man thirst let him come to me."
                2. Jesus claimed to be the answer.
                        a. Some have disputed that claim.
                                1. You see them all about you. Tongues hanging out they go
                                   panting around after this or that.
                                2. You read about them in your papers.
                                3. They live in hope, but eventually they die in despair, 
                                   never really ever knowing what it is to live.
                        b. It's not easy to dispute Christ's claims.
                1. You can't disprove them.
                2. You must rationalize for the hundreds here this morning who have drunk and
                   will testify that it is true they are now satisfied.
                        a. The millions throughout the world.

III. THE AVAILABILITY OF THE WATER OF LIFE.
        A. "Whosoever will."
                1. What about the poor heathen who has never heard?
                        a. I'm not concerned now about him/God will take care of him.
                        b. I am concerned about the poor thirsty heathen who have heard, but
                           who still have not drunk.
