REV. 21:9-27

I. VS. 9 ONE OF THE SEVEN ANGELS WHICH HAD THE SEVEN VIALS FULL OF THE SEVEN LAST PLAGUES.
        A. During the Revelation God uses many different persons to convey His message to
           John.
                1. He hears the voice from the throne.
                2. Jesus speaks to him.
                3. The elders talk to him.
                4. There was a special angel dispatched to make the Revelation known to John.
                5. John recognizes this angel to be one that he had seen with the seven last
                   plagues.
        B. The bride the Lamb's wife.
                1. The angel then shows John the New Jerusalem.
                        a. Some such as Dake declare that the New Jerusalem is the Bride of
                           Christ.
                        b. The New Jerusalem is the dwelling place of the Bride of Christ.
                        c. Paul refers to the church as the chaste virgin espoused to her
husband which is Christ. II Cor. 11:2
                2. The city is descending out of heaven from God.
                3. This is the city that the faithful of the Old Testament were looking for in
Hebrews 11 "They confessed they were strangers and pilgrims here."
                4. Heb. 12, we have not come to mount of the law, but to mount Zion the city
of the living God the New Jerusalem.

II. JOHN'S DESCRIPTION OF THE NEW JERUSALEM.
        A. Having the glory of God.
                1. This glory of God was known in the Old Testament as the Shekinah.
                        a. This filled the Tabernacle when it was set up in the wilderness.
                        b. This was the light that filled the Holy of Holies in the Tabernacle.
        B. Her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as
           crystal:
                1. Illuminated with a light for which you can see direct source.
                2. More like an incandescent glow.
        C. The wall is great and high, with twelve gates.
                1. At the gates 12 angels.
                        a. Most jokes have St. Peter guarding the gates of heaven.
                        b. Not so it will be angels.
                2. The names written on the twelve gates are the twelve tribes of the children
                   of Israel.
                        a. The promises of the inheritance was given to Abraham.
                        b. We through faith become the children of Abraham and thus the
                           heirs also.
                        c. We will be with the saints of all ages.
                3. The foundations of the wall have the names of the 12 apostles of the Lamb.
        D. Notice the number 12. This scripturally is the number of human government.
                1. 12 tribes.
                2. 12 apostles.
                3. City 12 thousand furlongs.
                4. Walls 144 cubits 12x12.
        E. The city a cube 12 thousand furlongs. Aprox. 1400 miles wide, long, high.
                1. If we assume that through the centuries there have been 20 billion who have
been saved and that 25% of the city will be devoted to housing and the rest
to parks and streets, each person would have a cube of 1/3 mile or 75 acres
                   on each face.
        F. The wall itself like unto jasper. Jasper is an opaque form of quartz, often
           very colorful.
        G. The foundations are made up of 12 gem stones.
                1. Jasper, like a diamond.
                2. Sapphire, blue.
                3. Chalcedony, sky blue.
                4. Emerald, green.
                5. Sardonyx red and white.
                6. Sardius, fiery red.
                7. Chrysolite, golden.
                8. Beryl, sea green.
                9. Topaz transparent green.
                10. Chrysoprase, purple.
                11. Jacinth, red.
                12. Amethyst, violet.
        H. No temple, the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple.
 I. The nations shall walk in the light of it. No night there.
                        a. Darkness which is often a symbol of evil will be banished forever.
                        b. I don't think that our new bodies will require any sleep. They
                           won't get wearied or tired.
                2. The kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it, they bring
the glory of the nations into it.
                        a. We shall be kings and priests unto our God
                        b. Only those written in the book of life.
