LUKE 19:10

"THE SEEKING GOD"

Intro: From the beginning the Bible has pictured God as a seeking God. "Adam,  where art
       thou?"  Now Christ declares purpose.

I. LOST.
        A. What does it mean?
                1. The loss of the soul.
                2. Many things you might lose.
                        a. Money.
                        b. Health.
                        c. Loved ones.
                        d. Reputation, influence, home.
                3. I would rather lose these things than soul.
                4. The grave-ends sickness, poverty, earthly trials. But fearful beginning for
                   sinner.
        B. How is a person lost?
                1. Born in sin.
                Suppose this not so:
                2. All have sinned.
                3. God has provided only one remedy for sin. "The blood of Jesus Christ God's
                   Son cleanseth."
        C. When is a person lost?
                1. Lost in life.
                        a. Family, church.
                2. Lost in death.
                3. Lost at Judgement bar of God.

II. CHRIST HAS COME TO SEEK.
        A. Man in this lost state you would think would be the one seeking.
                1. Alas he is blind.
                2. Satan has deceived him.
        B. The seeking God we once again see in the attitude of seeking man.
                1. He has sent His Son.
                2. He now sends His Spirit.

III. THE PURPOSE BEHIND THE SEEKING IS TO SAVE.
        A. The Word saved has opposite connotations to the Word lost.
        B. What does it mean to be saved?
                1. Sins forgiven.
                2. Penalty of sins removed.
                3. Eternity with Christ secured.
