MATTHEW 5:14-16

"YE ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD"

I. IMPLICATIONS.
        A. World in state of darkness.
                1. The world talks of enlightenment.
                2. Worldly philosophy can only analyze.
                        a. What is needed is the answer.
        B. Consider to whom this statement made.

II. HOW IS THIS TRUE OF US?
        A. Jesus also said: "I am the light of the world."

III. SECOND GREAT RESULT OF BEING A CHRISTIAN.
        A. First "Ye are salt."
                1. Negative.
        B. Second "Ye are the Light."
                1. Positive.
        C. Emphasizes what He is before what He does.

IV. HOW ARE WE TO BE THE LIGHT?
        A. What does light do?
                1. Expels darkness.
                2. Reveals that which is otherwise hid by darkness.

V. "LET YOUR LIGHT SO SHINE."
        A. "A city set on a hill can not be hid."
                1. He cannot be hid.
                2. Contrast so great we stand out.
                3. Lighting a candle then putting under basket.
                        a. As salt without savor it is useless.
        Salt is to give saltiness.
        Light is to give light.
        Nothing more useless than merely formal Christian Knows enough about Christianity to 
        spoil world for him. "Let your light so shine before men" Complete absence of
        ostentation and display.
