ISAIAH 33:14

Intro: This chapter predicts destruction of Assyria. "Woe to thee that spoilest,
       etc." DetaiIs of fulfillment of this prophesy in chapters 36 - 38.

I. THE PRESENCE OF GOD WAS REVEALED AS FIRE. (BURNED BODIES OF ASSYRIAN ARMY)
        A. Burden of Isa. message.
                1. Chapter 6 "live coal from off the alter."
                2. Chap. 66 "Lord coming with fire to consume enemies."
                3. "You may forget God and forsake Him, but you do not escape Him."
        B. Revealed throughout Scripture.
                1. Garden of Eden "swords of fire."
                2. Revelation "eyes like fire" "feet as brass burned in furnace."
                3. N.T. God is a consuming fire.
                4. Holy Spirit and fire.
        C. Three descriptions of God in N.T.
                1. God is love.
                2. God is light.
                3. God is a consuming fire (omit word consume..
                        When I cam wrapped about by the presence of God, I am in heaven
                        or hell, depends on what l am.
        D. Where is fire? Eremcausis.
                1. Pick up piece of metal from ground.
                2. See blazing colors of Autumn.
        E. Text brings great comfort.
                1. Hear the blasphemies of men.
                2. Hear the threats from Russia - China -as Assyria melted so will you.

II. HEB. WORD TRANSLATED IN TEXT "DWELL."
        A. Other places translated flee - fight - visit.
                1. God's presence has devoured the Assyrians.
                        a. Who of us can flee.
                        b. Who of us can fight.
                        c. Who of us can visit?
        B. These are not then true questions.
                1. I cannot flee from God's presence, I am in the fire.
                        a. The presence of God is either destroying me now, or is
                           destroying that which if allowed to remain would destroy
                           me. "God tried in fire."
                        b. The same fire consumes or transmits into permanency according
                           to the material.

III. "THE SINNERS IN ZION ARE AFRAID, FEARFULNESS HAS SURPRISED THE HYPOCRITES."
        A. Well might they fear the presence of God.
                1. The mightiest foe cannot survive God's fire.
                        a. And Assyria lies wasted.
                2. Well might you fear the fire if you know not Christ as Lord and Savior.
