He had no human father, His mother was a virgin. a. "For behold a virgin shall conceive and bear a Son..." b. Fulfilled promise made in garden of Eden, "The seed of the woman that was to bruise the serpent's head." 2. His birth was heralded by angels. "For unto you is born this day..." B. The Child is destined for greatness. "And the government shall be upon His..." C. The Child is destined for suffering. 1. "Despised, rejected, man of sorrows, acquainted with grief." 2. "He was wounded for our transgressions..." D. Two such unlike destinies? 1. This Child is coming again as King of Kings. a. "Then shall they see the sign of the Son of Man coming with." II. "UNTO US A SON IS GIVEN" LOOKING AT IT FROM THE DIVINE SIDE." A. "For God so loved the world..." B. The purpose of the gift. 1. To reveal to man the truth about God. a. Man's concepts had become so twisted - Greek & Roman mythology. b. Even in Israel those who established themselves as teachers (scribes) came in for sharpest criticism by Christ. 2. To bring man back into fellowship with God. a. Sin was the separating factor. Isa. 59:1. 1. "God made Him to be sin for us..." 2. Christ died for the sins of the world. 3. "All we like sheep have gone..." b. Man was created for fellowship. Original purpose in creation. 1. "And if we walk in the light as He is in the light..." 3. "A Son is given - to be the Savior of the world." a. The world was lost and without hope. b. A light shining in the darkness. III. THE WORLD'S REACTION TO GOD'S GIFT. A. Some rejected, "We will not have this Man to rule over us." 1. Rejected God's rule over their lives. 2. They crucified Him. B. Others gladly received Him, submitted their lives to Him. 1. "He was in the world, and the world was made by Him!" C. Today man has not changed. 1. Some reject. 2. Some receive. |
