PSALM 139:1-10

"THE PRESENCE OF GOD"

Intro: It is important that we come to the awareness of God's all pervading presence. King
       Ben-hadad. We are prone to think of the church as the place we meet God.

I. HIS PRESENCE IN THE UNIVERSE.
        A. "If I ascend into heaven, thou art there."
                1. Russian Cosmonaut.
                2. Our own Astronauts in moon orbit.
        B. "If I make my bed in hell, thou art there."
        C. "Take wings of morning, and dwell in uttermost parts of the sea even there."
                1. Some try to run from God - folly.
                        a. Experience in Redwood forest.
                        b. Ventura Co. Jail (Williams)

II. HIS PRESENCE IN OUR LIVES.
        A. "Thou hast beset me behind."
                1. Look back on your life, events, chance meetings God was there.
        B. Even as God's hand in our past also in future "Before."
                1. I cannot arrive at any place but what God has preceeded me there.
                        a. He knows the circumstances I will face.
                        b. He knows my reactions to the circumstances.
                        c. He has prepared the way for me and is now preparing me for
                           the way.
                2. This gives me great comfort.
                        a. I don't know what the future holds.
        C. "Thy hand is upon me."
                1. The hand of the Lord is upon your life.
                        a. To strengthen in hour of weakness.
                        b. To comfort in hour of sorrow.
                        c. Guide in hour of confusion.
                        d. To hea I in hour of sickness.

Ill. THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS AWARENESS OF HIS PRESENCE.
        A. One of our greatest problems we tend to forget His presence - this forgetfulness.
                1. Caused by:
                        a. Other interests (self..
                        b. Busy schedules.
                        c. Lack of communication.
                2. Results in:
                        a. Fear.
                        b. Discouragement.
                        c. Worldliness.
        B. By realizing His constant, continual presence.
                1. I will be more concerned to live the kind of life He wants.
                2. To not offend Him in any way.
                3. May our continual consciousness be "God is Here."
