II SAMUEL 7:18-22

Intro: David's decision to build a house for God. God through as prophet,
       rejects  David's plan and reveals His own intention. David went in
       and SAT before the  Lord.

I. DAVID'S HUMILITY "WHO AM I AND WHAT IS MY HOUSE THAT THOU HAST  BROUGHT
   ME HITHER TO?"
        A. Lowliness of origin "What is my house."
                1. David not of royal blood.
                2. God said, "I took thee from the sheep cote from
                   following sheep?"
                        a. God put him on the throne.
                3. What is your origin?
                        a. You have come from race of rebels.
                        b. Yet God has called you to be His child.
                        c. He has put us on a throne.
        B. His own personal unworthiness, "Who am I?"
                1. Just a shepherd, now a king. Who am I?
                2. Might we not say the same?
                        a. Why should God love us?
                        b. Why should God reveal His grace to us?
                        c. Why should God bless us so?
                        d. Why should God send His Son to die for me?
                3. David conscious of what he deserved.
                        a. "Remember not the sins of my youth."
                        b. "According to the multitude of thy tender
                            mercies blot out my  transgressions."
Contrast
        C. Who am I O Lord God?
                1. Nothing humbles a man like mercy of God.
                        a. Unkind, cutting remarks never humbles a man.
                2. Nothing weighs a man down like a load of blessings.
                        a. Peter seeing his boat starting to sink with
                           its over abundance of fish... "depart from me
                           Lord, I'm a sinful man."
                        b. "Know ye not that it is the goodness of God..."

II. DAVID'S GRATITUDE.
        A. For what God had done.
                1. Brought him to throne.
                2. Look what God has done for you.
                        a. Redeemed.
                        b. Brought to you from...
                        c. Brought you to.
        B. For what God promised to do. Vs. 19.
                1. What has been done "small thing" compared with what He
                   has  promised to do.
                2. God spoke to David of  "a great while to come" "That in
                   the ages to  come, He might show the exceeding riches
                   of His grace in His  kindness toward us through Jesus
                   Christ."
        C. God's manner of giving "Grace."
                1. "Is this the manner of man?"

III. DAVID'S OVERWHELMING EMOTIONS.
        A. Freeness of Grace, Vs. 21.
                1. Why should God love you?
        B. For faithfulness of God.
                1. He has given His Word, He shall surely perform that
                   which He has  spoken.
        C. For the greatness of the promises. "All these great things"
        Verse 22.
