II SAMUEL 7:18-22

Intro: David made king over all Israel. Hiram had sent cedars for David's
       palace. David decided to build a house for God. God revealed
       through the prophet His  diving intentions. David overwhelmed,
       went in and SAT before the Lord and  worshipped. Conscious of
       God's mercies let us enter where David could not go  within the
       veil to the Holy of Holies. David realized God was speaking of
       Christ. Acts 2:29.

I. DAVID'S HUMILITY. "WHO AM I O LORD GOD, AND WHAT IS MY HOUSE,  THAT
   THOU HAST BROUGHT ME HITHERTO?"
        A. Lowliness of origin "What is my house?"
                1. Came not from royal blood.
                2. Taken from sheep cote.
                3. What is your origin?
                        a. That you should be called a child of God?
                        b. You have come from a race of rebels.
        B. Own personal unworthiness, "Who am I?"
                1. Might we not say the same?
                2. Look at yourself, what is there that God should send
                   His Son to die  for you?
                3. David looked at his own deservings.
                        a. Ps. 25, "Remember the sins of my youth."
        C. "Who am I ,O Lord God?" Sense of own nothingness.
                1. Nothing humbles a man like mercy of God.
                        a. Unkind, cutting remarks never humbles a man.
                        b. Nothing weighs a man down like a load of
                           blessings.
                                a. Peter saw his boat sinking with an
                                   over abundance  of fish... "depart
                                   from me..."
                                b. "Know ye not that the goodness of
                                    God..."

II. DAVID'S WONDERING GRATITUDE.
        A. At what God had done for him. "And what is my house that you
           have  brought me hitherto?"
                1. Put me on the throne, promised the Christ through me.
                2. Look what God has done for you.
                        a. Brought you out of the pit.
                        b. Washed, cleansed, pardoned, justified,
                           sanctified.
        B. At what God promised, Vs. 19.
                1. "Small thing."  every mercy seems greater.
                        a. Salvation, justified (complete., sanctified
                           (new heart),  adopted sons and daughters,
                            reign as kings and priests.
                2. God has spoken of a great while to come. "And
                   throughout the  ages to come, shall be revealing unto
                   us the exceeding riches of  His love through Jesus
                   Christ our Lord."
        C. God's manner of giving, "Is this the law of man?"

III. DAVID'S EMOTIONS OF LOVE.
        A. "What can David say more? Struck dumb by love.
                1. Paul's "And what shall we say to these things?"
                2. There comes that time that moment when in His presence
                   reminded of His grace we become speechless.
                   Communication of  the spirit, the eloquence of
                   silence.
        B. "For thou Lord God knowest thy servant?"
                1. Peter "Thou knowest all things, thou knowest."

IV. DAVID'S PRAISE.
        A. For freeness of grace, Vs. 21.
                1. Why does God love you?
        B. For faithfulness of God.
                1. "For thy word's sake."
                2. God's Word shall not fail.
        C. For the greatness of the promise, "All these great things."

V. DAVID'S HIGH THOUGHTS OF GOD.
        A. The greatness of God..Positive..Comparative..Superlative.
        B. Too great for me to offend Him, grieve Him. doubt Him... so
           great.
        C. Nothing I do for Him can be great, nothing too great for me to
           give to Him.
