Intro: Wrong to think a man doesn't know truth about himself.

I. THE MAN WHO MADE THIS STATEMENT.
        A. "A choice young man and goodly."
                1. Handsome & phsique.
                2. Issac Watts.
        B. Good family background 'Mighty man of power."
                1. First introduced to him searching for lost donkey's of
                   his father.
        C. Humble - when first told by Samuel that he was to be king.
        D. Splendid courage - Nahash.

II. THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT CAME TO HIM.
        A. Called by God to rule kingdom.
        B. Spirit of God upon him.
        C. Surrounded by good men "And there went with him a band of men
           whose hearts God had touched."

III. MANIFESTATIONS OF HIS FOLLY.
        A. Hiding on day of annointing.
        B. Military pride.
        C. Impatience.
        D. Foolish vow.
        E. Disobedience and lying - Ameleck.
        F. Hatred of David.
        G. Commerce with witch.

IV. WHAT WAS HIS TRUE FOLLY?
        A. All of these manifestations of something deeper.
                1. Failure to submit life to God "Because thou hast
                   rejected the Word  of the Lord."
        B. A man plays the fool when - 
                1. He hides when God has called him.
                2. He possesses any pride.
                3. Impatient with God's plan.
                4. Allows some hatred to master him.
                5. When he forsakes good friends.
        C. A man is a fool when he resists God and fails to submit to God.
        What story teaches: 
                Natural advantages are not all. Opportunities do not crown
                a man. The  only wise course to submit to God.
